Portraits of Honor:

Detroit's Holocaust Survivors

This photographic exhibition features portraits in black and white by photographers, Tom Kirby and Dean Randazzo of Blue Sky Photography and Krista Husa of the Detroit Jewish News with brief biographies of the Holocaust survivors.
The photographs reveal the beauty, strength, and resilience as well as the pain of the survivors. The survivors suffered overwhelming losses in the Holocaust. Their immediate and extended families were murdered; their communities were destroyed. It can be said that it was a miracle that anyone survived the Holocaust.
We anticipate that this exhibition will help preserve for posterity these portraits of our survivors and that will give them the honor that they so justly deserve. Hopefully we all can learn:
How have they lived with their enormous personal tragedies?
How can their lives be "normal"?
How these remarkable men and women, our friends and neighbors living among us, were able to survive and make new lives in America?
